Private Luke Worsley Bridge

This war memorial is a small steel bridge located in the southern end of Howe Park in Windsor. It is dedicated to Private Luke Worsley who was killed by small arms fire on 23 November 2007 while serving with Special Operations Task Group in Urguzgan Province in Southern Afghanistan. The bridge was dedicated in his memory on 9 December 2011.

Details of Private Worsley's life and military service are included on a plaque attached to a plinth on the southern side of the bridge. The plinth is surrounded by a small stone garden and accompanied by a flagpole. 

The Australian Army page titled, 'Private Luke Worsley' includes further details, noting that Private Worsley enlisted into the Australian Regular Army on 23 October 2001. His initial training was completed at Singleton and he was then posted to the 1st Battalion. He was deployed to East Timor as part of Operation Citadel. After two years of service, he successfully applied for selection in the 4th Battalion (Commando). Worsley deployed with Delta Commando Company Group to Afghanistan in 2006. He was then deployed to Bravo Company Company Group and was deployed with them to Afghanistan in September 2007.

Private Worsley was awarded the unit Citation for Gallantry for his service with the Special Operations Task Group in 2006. He was also awarded medals for his service in Timor and Afghanistan.
